Does anyone have suggestions or ideas for getting out of chairs? We have asked for a higher chair for the person I care for but apparently it wasn't covered in whatever money was available. I know about the lift chairs..but those don't work in a dining room/kitchen setting.  In order to get up he uses a one legged sideways motion, and even though PT worked with him on this, it didn't stick.  We have one of those round tables on a post and it's starting to bend downward, we've tried using the walker but no luck..any equipment out there that would help him?

My experiences of my wifes myotonic dystophy seems to be an endless stream of these sorts of puzzles!!

Can the table be moved so that the gentleman is sitting close enough to a wall to be able to use a fold down grab bar attached to the wall?

Going off subject a bit (but someone might find it useful!) we have just found that a toilet frame positioned by the bath has proved very helpful in aiding my wife getting from the edge of the bath to the floor on her own without bashing her knees every time (my wifes legs wont support her most of the day).

Best regards,

Pookie

Been giving this a little thought and if the problem is just that the table is angling down on one side because the gentleman is putting his weight on the table as he gets up,a simple and hopefully cheap solution might be to put one or possibly two more legs/supports between the table top and the floor on the side the gentleman sits.

hope this helps.

I USE A FIRM CUSHION THAT DOESNT SLIDE & HAVE PURCHASED CASTERS FOR UNDER CHAIR LEGS, I FOUND THEM ONLINE BUT SORRY TO SAY DIDNT KEEP ADDRESS.  ALSO A CHAIR WITH ARMS ON IT IS GOOD, USING WITH THE CUSHION & CASTERS.
